What is Tack Welding?

Use of Tack Welding in Fabrication Procedure

In this section we will discuss the usage of tack welds in fabrication process.

 Tack weld is used in joints in two manners.


1. External Tack Welds

In this type or manner, tack welds are placed outside the hinge and after doing the final welding tack welds are abolished. But tack welds can also persist in place and attach them to the final welding.

External tack welds are also known as non-incorporated joints and are determined as the final weld. According to welding rules, components and welding technique which are used for all these joints should also be applicable for the final welds. These non-incorporated welds are constant and should be powerful enough to handle even high pressure and stress.

2. Internal Tack Welds

In internal tack weld process, the tack weld is liquefied completely and befits in the final weld. Internal tack welds are further categorized into two parts:

Re-melted internal tack welds
Incorporated internal tack welds
Re-melted internal tack welds

When we talk about re-melted tack welds, in this process we put the final weld over the tack weld and then give the high temperature pressure to the final weld until tack weld becomes the part of final weld entirely without having any evidence about its existence.

Incorporated internal tack welds
